"Ever since I learned that Deva was inside me, I've done a lot of thinking... About what it means to have this power... And why I was entrusted with it. I finally decided that Origins...And Mystics were put here to protect the world. At least that's what I've come to believe. Maybe that's hard for you to understand since your Origin hasn't awoken yet. That mark on your chest means that there's an Origin inside of you and a destiny for you to fulfill."
—Kazan to Lang

In Legaia 2: Duel Saga, Mystics are a group of chosen people selected to wield the power of an elemental spirit within them, called Origins.

Description & Characteristics[]

A Mystic is a human who shares a body with an immensely powerful elemental spirit from birth called Origin who will obey its host's command as well as distinguished by peculiar-looking birthmark that themed after Origin in question. While Source Forge was responsible for such phenomenon, the reason behind it has been differently proposed by different people; whereas Doplin perceive them as sort of messianic figures, Kazan states that Mystics exists to protect the world and Avalon believes they should re-create the world where Mystics better prosper than normal humans. Indeed, a Mystic can choose to do either owing to their great power, especially if he/she happens to be a Star Shaper variant.

Regardless, the Mystics were once persecuted and killed by normal humans due to fear of their great powers. Through Kazan's accounts pertaining those dark times after the visit at Kravia and Avalon's flashback, some of them went so far suggested that natural disasters followed wherever a Mystic goes and killing him/her is the only way to stop it all. Such delusion culminated to the foundation of an anti-Mystic guild dedicated to destroy the Mystics and those who symphatize them. Fortunately, a cataclysm that created Kravia's very famous crater vanquished the guild along with most of its supporters, genocidal movements against Mystics were no more.

As of the events of the game, the Mystics have managed to regrow their population in secret and prejudice against them significantly mitigated with their existence gradually dismissed as mere myths, though only a few them that already awakened their power due to their near-extinction. Elliott and Marienne's parents were last known members of anti-Mystic community since they casted away their children upon noticing their peculiar marking.

It's later revealed that the one behind the very cataclysm that saved their kind was none other than Avalon, the story's main antagonist. Blinded by hatred and unaware that he had ensured his people's survival, Avalon seeks to rid the world of all humans in order to create a paradise for Mystics such as he. For that purpose, he conspires with Velna and Doplin to capture and coerce hiding Mystics into their cause.

Star Shaper[]

Not all Mystics are born equal. Selected few among themselves have greater affinity with both Source Forge and Three Elemental Stones (Pyrolith, Aerolith, and Aqualith) thus able to use them to shape the whole planet into their liking. They are Star Shaper, Mystics with greater responsibility and power to save the world than their kin. Though other Mystics can influence Source Forge and Three Elemental Stones, they cannot do so as much as Star Shapers but nevertheless able to support them with their own strength, as demonstrated by Kazan, Maya, and Sharon Blade who assists Lang the Star Shaper with their respective Origin's powers.

Requirements for a Mystic to become the full-fledged one[]

To become a full-fledged Mystic thus able to summon his/her Origin, one must fulfill following criteria:
