Danpas (ダンパス, Danpasu) is a minor character in Legend of Legaia. He lives with his wife, Mrs. Danpas, at the western end of the town of Vidna.
Appearance[]
Danpas is an old man with graying hair and a wrinkled face. Due to his age, he stands with a bit of a slouch.
Personality[]
Danpas seems to be a bit of a cook at first, though it is soon apparent that he had great foresight. He is of strong moral character, choosing to risk his life and save others when it comes down to it, without regard for whether or not that person treated him with kindness.
Story[]
Living in the west end of town, Danpas was the only of Vidna's townspeople to live in fear of the Mist despite the fact that it was kept at bay due to the town's windmills that doubled as large fans. Because of his paranoia, he paid to have a shelter built in the basement of his home as a precaution in case the windmills ever stopped. This drew a lot of negative attention from townsfolk, but this did not stop him, as he felt that his fellow townspeople were being fools by living such a carefree life with the presence of the Mist constantly at their doorstep.
Legend of Legaia[]
- "I'm a complete idiot! I built a shelter but can't get to it. Ha ha ha! This shelter is always ready for use! When I go into town, they can't praise me enough, saying I'm a hero! That's why I stay hidden in the shelter like this."
- —Danpas to Vahn
Danpas meets the Ra-Seru heroes when their journey to rid the world of Mist leads them to Vidna. Seeing that the trio realizes what danger the Mist still poses to humanity, he promises them a space in his shelter if the Mist were to ever invade. It is not long afterward that Danpas's greatest fear comes true, as a henchman of the Mist freezes the lava in the depths of the earth that powered the windmills with geothermal energy. Despite most of his fellow townspeople criticizing him previously, he not only offers everyone safety in his shelter, but also searches the Mist-covered town for survivors, risking his own life.
Fortunately for Danpas and his wife, luck would find a Chicken Heart attached to him that allowed easier escape from the Seru monsters in the Mist. After the Mist is driven from Vidna, Danpas decides to remain in his shelter until further notice in order to escape the annoyance of constant gratitude from grateful townsfolk.
